Butterscotch Caramel Candies

Here's another candy recipe from our catalog. If it sounds good to you, you'll love the candle.

¾ c sweetened condensed milk
2 c packed light brown sugar
1 c butter
½ tsp salt
1 c dark corn syrup
1 tsp vanilla extract

Cook all ingredients except vanilla to 240°. Add vanilla extract and cook
to 246°. Pour into a buttered tin 1 inch deep. Cut when cool and serve.

I'm Back!

Whew! October and November were CRAZY around my house, and my blank GC blog has been proof of that. Major cleaning and painting projects were going on so that I could host my very first Thanksgiving. The funky blue kitchen cabinets are gone, my livingroom is no longer dirty seafoam green, and I am now an expert with the blue painter tape. But now - a well-deserved break so that I can focus on myself, my family, and Gold Canyon. Let the Christmas season begin!!!

Scents That Blend From Room to Room

In addition to trying scent recipes, where you light several candles at once, mixing the fragrances together, why not try coordinating your scents from room to room? While one candle can scent more than one room, I like to light complimenting scents in several rooms, so that I have a new scent experience wherever I go. This works particularly well in my house, as my rooms tend to be on the larger side. Here's what I have going right now:

Coconut Pecan Brittle Recipe

Here's a great recipe to go along with Gold Canyon's new Coconut Pecan Brittle candle.

1 cup flaked coconut
1 cup pecans (chopped or whole)
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup water
1 cup light corn syrup
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 teaspooons baking soda

Bake coconut at 350* until lightly browned. Mix with pecans in bowl. Turn oven off and place two greased pans inside. In saucepan, mix sugar, salt and water until boiling and sugar is dissolved. Stir in corn syrup and return to a boil. Mix in coconut mixture. Stirring frequently, bring to 300*, and remove from heat. Immediately stir in vanilla and butter. Stir in baking soda. Immediately pour onto warm pans and spread. Cool completely, break and serve.

My Five Faves That Are Going Away

Here are the things I love that are out of here with the new Holiday catalog:

1. Lemon Bar. I've said it before and I'll say it again: LOVE IT! A member of the popular Baking Line, it's my favorite Gold Canyon candle. And it's only offered in our summer catalog, so I stock up every year.

2. Fem Fabulous. They smell fantastic and they come in an adorable jar.

3. Star-Spangled Votives. I can't tell you how many compliments I received regarding these. They're a great value, well made, and festive!

4. Citronella Nights. I wouldn't be caught without these in the summer. They smell FANTASTIC (not the usual icky citronella scent), and they really work!

5. Summer of Sun Surfer Girl. Effervescent, fresh, and in a cool retro container. Too cute!

Moving Tools

Well -- my husband and I just purchased our first house! We're very excited. It needs a TON of work, but it's got great bones. Unfortunately, it came with a lot of dirt, and some interesting smells. I may not be able to find all of my clothes, but I know exactly where my Gold Canyon boxes are at. Here are some of things I've dug out in the past two weeks that we've lived here:

1. Rosemary Mint All-Purpose Cleaner. Have I mentioned the house was dirty????? This cleaner has been a life saver. It cleans and helps with some of the odors left behind -- like cigar smoke.

2. Scent Pod Warmer. I love my central air. I do not love that the vents do crazy things with my candle flames. But I am not without my Gold Canyon fragrance. On my kitchen counter right now is the square pod warmer with the Moroccan Amber Vanilla pod from the Spring catalog. LOVE IT.

3. Fresh Orange Diffuser. The sunroom is large and now filled with fantastic fragrance.

4. Auto Fresheners. All of those guys who helped us out on moving day are getting auto fresheners in their thank you gifts (not to mention a candle for their wives).

Candle Recipe: Summer Ambrosia

It's hard to believe, but summer is on it's way out of here! Before it goes, try out this fruity mix.
